Sin City. The City That Never Sleeps. Glitter Gulch. The City of Lost Wages. The Neon City. A Desert Oasis.
Las Vegas. There are countless nicknames for our city, but for many of us, this is our home.
Living in Las Vegas comes with its own unique adventures and stresses. You may be a longtime local who grew up here, or you may be like me, a transplant from out of state (hello, sunshine!). One thing we all have in common is that sometimes we could use extra support and guidance for when life gets stressful or overwhelming. But where do you go? How do you get started?
How to Find a Therapist in Las Vegas
- Determine your budget. Personal therapy is a financial investment in yourself and your future. The cost for therapy can vary greatly, depending on the provider’s years of experience, licensing, specialities, and therapeutic modalities. Generally speaking, more experienced providers cost more per session. You’ll also need to decide whether or not to use insurance, if you have it. Some providers, like myself, do not accept insurance because it always requires a mental health diagnosis and the insurance companies may try to dictate how and when someone receives care. Many insurance plans offer “out of network” benefits and will reimburse clients for a portion of their costs for therapy. You may want to check with your insurance company.
- Ask friends, family, and/or colleagues for a trusted referral. Your friends and loved ones probably know you well enough to make a recommendation based on your personality style, strengths, and current stressors. If you choose to reach out to a referral from a friend, please remember that your consultation and work is kept strictly confidential.
- Do some research online. You can use a search engine to research terms like “therapist in Las Vegas” or “trauma therapist Las Vegas” or “Las Vegas counseling services” to get a list of local providers. There are also a number of online directories that give you a list of names and professional profiles to review. See who jumps out to you and make a list of 3-4 people to call, email, or message.
- Schedule a free consultation. Speak with the therapist and see how comfortable you feel talking to them. Research shows that you get the most out of therapy when you feel connected and comfortable with your therapist. Once you talk to a potential provider, you will feel more confident choosing the person that felt like the best fit.
